Buyer checklist
What to look for when choosing an IT company in Johannesburg
Use these questions with any provider you are comparing, including SureTel.
1
Published pricing
Can you see a per-user price before the first meeting, and what it does and does not include? Vague 'from' figures with no scope make quotes hard to compare.
2
Response targets in writing
Ask for initial-response targets by priority, the support hours they apply to, and whether they are response or fix times.
3
A security baseline
Every managed device should be patched, monitored and protected by endpoint detection and response (EDR) — not only when you pay extra.
4
Who owns your accounts and passwords
Your Microsoft 365 tenant, domain and admin passwords should belong to your business, documented and handed over on request.
5
Clear exit terms
Know the contract length, notice period and what the provider hands back when you leave.
6
Onsite cost
Remote support is normal. Ask what an onsite visit costs, how travel is charged and whether there is a dispatch fee.
7
One accountable provider
When internet, phones and IT come from different suppliers, faults bounce between them. One team for all three means one number to call.

FAQs
Questions about choosing an IT company
How much does an IT company charge in Johannesburg?
Prices vary by provider and scope. SureTel's own published prices are: managed IT from R500 per managed user per month on a 12-month agreement (normal minimum R7,500/month), onboarding R350 per user once-off (minimum R5,000), Cloud PBX from R50 per extension/month and business fibre from R687/month. All prices excl. VAT.
Do you come onsite?
Yes, when it is needed. Support is remote-first, and onsite visits are charged at R450 per hour (minimum one hour) plus R4.95/km return travel, excl. VAT, with no dispatch fee and no extra travel-time charge.
Do you support businesses in Pretoria and the West Rand?
Yes. SureTel serves Johannesburg, Pretoria and the West Rand, with remote-first support across Gauteng. The technical base is in Krugersdorp on the West Rand.
Can you take over from our current IT company?
Yes. Start with a free IT Health & Risk Assessment. SureTel then plans the handover: admin access and passwords, device documentation, and deploying monitoring and EDR. Check your notice period with your current provider early.
What are your support hours?
Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00, excluding South African public holidays. The base managed IT service does not include after-hours or 24/7 cover.
How quickly do you respond?
Critical (P1) issues get an initial response within 60 minutes during support hours, and P2 within 4 business hours. These are response targets, not guaranteed fix times.
Do you also supply internet and phones?
Yes. SureTel is a licensed ISP and supplies business fibre, wireless internet, Cloud PBX and VoIP alongside managed IT, so one provider is accountable for all three.
