Problems this solves
Retail communication problems that create daily friction
| Retail problem | How the supplied solution can help |
|---|---|
| Calls reach the wrong store or an unmanned line | Cloud PBX routing can direct callers by store, department, operating hours or escalation path. |
| Branches operate separate phone systems | A shared hosted phone structure can standardise extensions, ring groups, call transfers and business-hours rules. |
| Head office cannot easily assist store callers | Assigned extensions and controlled call transfers can help staff move customer enquiries to the right person or location. |
| Store connectivity was not planned around business operations | A suitable primary connection can be selected per address, with requirements, feasibility and local infrastructure checked first. |
| A primary link is a single point of operational risk | LTE/5G backup can be scoped for appropriate sites and compatible equipment; it does not remove every outage scenario. |
| CCTV requirements are unclear | A separately scoped CCTV design can clarify site coverage, camera placement, cabling, recording and access needs. |
| Multiple suppliers create unclear ownership | SureTel can coordinate and communicate within the scope of its supplied voice, connectivity and CCTV components. |
When it fits
When a retail communication solution is a good fit
One customer-facing calling structure
Use a business number, extensions and routing rules that align with store, head-office and service-desk needs.
More consistent branch communication
Give authorised staff a clearer way to call, transfer and escalate customer enquiries across locations.
Site-specific connectivity planning
Consider each store's address, building access, business use and available connection options.
A clearer continuity option
Add a suitable LTE/5G backup component where the site, coverage, equipment and operational need justify it.
Simpler expansion planning
Scope new stores, relocations or staff changes against a shared communication structure rather than rebuilding every site from scratch.
A separately scoped security layer
Include CCTV where retail site coverage and operational requirements call for it.
Service mix
Build the retail solution around the way your stores operate
Cloud PBX
Supports extensions, ring groups, call routing, transfers and business-hours handling for a coordinated retail calling structure.
Generic Cloud PBX service intent remains on the service page.
Explore Cloud PBX →Business VoIP
Provides internet-based business calling for customer enquiries, supplier calls and internal retail communication.
Call quality still depends on suitable connection, local network and device conditions.
Explore VoIP →Business Fibre
Can provide the primary business connection for stores, head office or operational sites where feasibility is confirmed.
Availability, FNO and lead time are address-specific.
Check Business Fibre →LTE/5G Backup
Can provide an additional backup connection for suitable sites, subject to mobile coverage and compatible router configuration.
It does not guarantee continuity through every failure scenario.
Explore LTE/5G Backup →CCTV
Provides a separately scoped camera and surveillance solution for retail premises.
CCTV does not itself make a retailer POPIA, PCI or loss-prevention compliant.
Explore CCTV →Multi-Branch Solution
Helps multi-store retailers align branch communication, connectivity planning and operational coordination.
This is the cross-industry solution page.

Cost guidance
Indicative retail solution costs
Retail solution pricing depends on store count, addresses, user or extension count, primary connectivity feasibility, backup requirements, equipment, installation, number porting and CCTV scope. Use these public starting points to begin a conversation, not as a fixed retail package price.
All prices are shown excluding VAT unless stated otherwise.
Indicative starting points — individual components
Cloud PBX
From R60 per extension/month
Price scales by extension volume; relevant add-ons and number requirements must be confirmed.
VoIP calling
From 30c/min
Per-second billing; call patterns and bundle needs affect the recommended option.
Minute bundles
From R300/month
Suitable bundle size depends on usage and calling profile.
Business Fibre
From R1,400/month
Feasibility, FNO, speed, installation and contract requirements vary by site.
LTE/5G Backup
From R379/month
Coverage, APN, data requirements, router configuration and backup design must be confirmed.
CCTV
Price on request
Site design, cameras, cabling, recording and installation requirements determine cost.
These are individual component starting points. Do not total these figures into a fixed retail bundle price — the recommended combination depends on store count, extensions, feasibility, backup design and CCTV scope, and is confirmed in your quote.
Use cases
Retail environments this page should speak to
Independent store with a customer enquiry line
Use a professional business number, extensions and routing rules instead of relying on one personal mobile number.
Multi-branch retailer
Create a clearer calling structure between branches, regional managers and head office while assessing connectivity per store.
Franchise or chain operation
Support standardised call handling and a repeatable process when stores open, move or add staff.
Showroom and service counter
Route customer calls to sales, service, collection or returns teams according to business rules.
Click-and-collect or order-support location
Keep incoming order and customer-service calls connected to the appropriate store or operational team.
Retail site requiring CCTV refresh
Scope camera coverage, access, recording and installation requirements as a separate part of the site solution.
These are illustrative retail environments. They do not imply existing SureTel customers or verified case studies.
Decision support
Choose the retail components that match the operating need
| Retail need | Consider | Confirm before quoting |
|---|---|---|
| One main customer-facing number with call routing | Cloud PBX + VoIP | Store hours, departments, call flow, number-porting needs and extension count |
| Calls transferred between stores, head office and service desks | Cloud PBX + VoIP + multi-branch design | Branch list, routing rules, authorised users and existing numbers |
| A primary business connection for store systems and staff connectivity | Business Fibre where feasible | Address, available infrastructure, site access, speed requirement and local LAN/Wi-Fi readiness |
| A second connection for selected critical sites | LTE/5G Backup | Mobile coverage, router compatibility, data requirement, power approach and desired failover behaviour |
| Retail-site camera coverage | CCTV | Site plan, coverage zones, cabling routes, storage, retention and user access requirements |
| A coordinated supplier relationship for supplied components | Integrated retail solution | Which existing suppliers, devices and applications remain outside SureTel's scope |
Direct visitors needing generic product comparisons to the relevant service pages and resources. This industry page should keep the decision rooted in the retail operating scenario.

Retail CCTV layer
cameras, recording and authorised access — separately scoped
SureTel supplies the agreed communication, connectivity, backup and CCTV components. Retail applications, payment services, PCI obligations, local power and unsupplied networks remain separate responsibilities.
Business number and call routing
A hosted phone system can apply routing and business-hours rules before a caller reaches a store, department or escalation path.
Connectivity and retail applications
A business connection carries traffic for the retailer's own devices and applications, but the page must not promise application performance or payment-platform availability.
Backup connectivity
A backup path can be configured for appropriate sites and equipment, but it may not protect against every failure type, including power loss, local LAN faults or wider mobile-network issues.
CCTV and privacy
CCTV is a separate solution area. Retailers remain responsible for legal, privacy, access-control, signage, retention and compliance obligations relevant to their operations.

Retail FAQs
Common questions
What communication solutions does SureTel provide for retail businesses?
SureTel can provide a retail-focused combination of Cloud PBX, VoIP, business internet, optional LTE/5G backup and CCTV. The right mix depends on the number of stores, customer-call requirements, existing numbers, addresses, primary connectivity feasibility and whether CCTV is required. The retail page explains the use case; the individual Cloud PBX (/services/cloud-pbx), VoIP (/services/voip), Business Fibre (/services/business-fibre), LTE/5G Backup (/services/lte-5g-backup) and CCTV (/services/cctv) pages provide product detail.
Can one business number route customers to the right retail store or department?
Yes. A Cloud PBX and VoIP setup can be configured with extensions, ring groups, business-hours rules and call-routing paths so calls can be directed to the right store, department or authorised person. The exact routing design depends on your store hours, staffing model, departments and preferred escalation process.
Can SureTel connect multiple retail branches and head office?
Yes. SureTel can scope a shared communications approach for branches and head office using Cloud PBX and VoIP, while assessing business connectivity for each address separately. This can make it easier to use consistent extension numbering, routing rules and call transfers across authorised teams. See Multi-Branch Business Solutions (/solutions/multi-branch-businesses) for the broader multi-site approach.
Can SureTel provide internet for our retail POS, stock or online-order systems?
SureTel can provide the agreed business connectivity layer that your retailer-managed POS, inventory, order or cloud applications use. However, SureTel does not provide, manage or guarantee the performance of those third-party platforms, payment providers, card terminals or retail software. Your internal IT team, POS provider and payment provider remain responsible for their own systems and compliance requirements.
Can a retail store use LTE or 5G as backup internet?
LTE/5G backup can be an option for suitable retail sites, subject to mobile coverage, data requirements, compatible router configuration, power arrangements and the applications you want to support during a primary-link issue. It can reduce reliance on a single connection, but it does not guarantee continuity through every outage scenario. Review LTE/5G Backup (/services/lte-5g-backup) for the product scope.
Does SureTel provide CCTV for retail stores?
Yes. SureTel can scope and install a CCTV solution for retail premises, including the camera, recording, cabling, access and installation requirements agreed in the quote. CCTV is priced on request because site layout, coverage areas, hardware, recording and installation requirements vary. Retailers remain responsible for their operating policies, privacy obligations, signage, authorised access and any compliance requirements that apply to them.
Does a SureTel retail solution make my business POPIA or PCI compliant?
No. SureTel's voice, connectivity and CCTV services do not by themselves make a retailer POPIA or PCI compliant. Retailers remain responsible for their own legal, privacy, payment, POS, data-handling, access-control and industry compliance obligations. SureTel will clearly define the scope of the supplied solution and can coordinate with the customer's other providers where appropriate.
Can we keep our existing retail business numbers when moving to VoIP?
In many cases, business numbers can be ported to a new VoIP or Cloud PBX setup, subject to the relevant porting process, eligibility, documentation and timing. SureTel will confirm the number-porting scope during the quote and onboarding process. Read Number Porting in South Africa (/resources/number-porting-south-africa) for the educational guide.
