What is a virtual landline?
A normal business number, without the copper line
A virtual landline is a normal geographic business number — for example 010, 012, 021 or 031 — that rings on a mobile app, desk phone or phone system over the internet, without a copper Telkom line. SureTel numbers (DIDs) are R10 per number per month excl. VAT, calls are from R0.30 per minute, and existing eligible numbers port for R40 once-off.

FAQ
Virtual landline number FAQs
Do I need a Telkom line for a virtual landline number?
No. A virtual landline number runs over your internet connection, so you do not need a copper Telkom line. Callers dial a normal geographic number such as 010 or 021.
Can my landline number ring on my cellphone?
Yes. With a Cloud PBX extension, your business number can ring on the mobile app on your cellphone, as well as on a desktop app or desk phone.
Can I keep my existing 011 number?
Yes. Already have an 011 number? You can port it to SureTel and keep it — new Johannesburg numbers are issued on 010.
Can I keep my existing Telkom or other provider number?
Eligible existing numbers can be ported to SureTel for R40 once-off per number excl. VAT. Timing depends on the losing provider's response and a complete request, so plan with a buffer.
How much does a virtual number cost?
A SureTel virtual number is R10 per number per month excl. VAT. Outgoing calls are from R0.30 per minute excl. VAT. A Cloud PBX extension is from R50 per extension/month excl. VAT if you want the number to ring on apps and desk phones.
Can I get numbers in more than one city?
Yes. You can hold numbers in different area codes — for example 010 in Johannesburg and 021 in Cape Town — at R10 per number per month excl. VAT each. Availability is confirmed for each area code when you order.
Are incoming calls charged?
Inbound call costs depend on your setup and are confirmed on your quote, together with your number and call rates.
What happens during load-shedding or if the internet goes down?
Calls can forward to another number, or you can answer on the mobile app using mobile data. A backup LTE or 5G connection keeps the office online when fibre is down.
Can I use a virtual number with my existing PBX?
Yes. A virtual number can route to a compatible existing PBX through a SIP trunk, so you keep your current phone system.
Is a virtual number the same as VoIP?
A virtual number is the phone number; VoIP is the technology that carries the calls over the internet. A virtual landline number uses VoIP to ring wherever you choose.
