In short

Teams calling with SureTel, in a nutshell

Your staff can make and take business calls in Microsoft Teams using SureTel business numbers — new 010, 012, 021 or other geographic numbers, or your existing numbers ported to SureTel. Teams connects through SureTel Cloud PBX or a Yeastar onsite PABX supplied by SureTel. Calls are from R0.30 per minute and Cloud PBX from R50 per extension, excl. VAT. Cloud PBX is set up remotely, so Teams calling is available in Cape Town too.

How it works

How Teams calling connects to your numbers

  1. Step 1

    Microsoft Teams

Staff dial out and answer calls in the Teams app on their computer or phone, the same app they already use for chat and meetings.

  2. Step 2

    Your phone system

SureTel Cloud PBX, hosted for you, or a Yeastar onsite PABX at your office. It holds your extensions, call menus, queues and routing rules.

  3. Step 3

    SureTel numbers and calls

Your business numbers and outgoing calls to landlines and mobiles run on SureTel voice, with calls from R0.30 per minute excl. VAT.

Calls work in both directions: customers dial your business number and reach staff in Teams, and staff call out from Teams over SureTel voice.

Choose your phone system

Microsoft licensing

What you need from Microsoft

  • Calling normal phone numbers from Teams needs the right Microsoft 365 / Teams Phone licensing.
  • Exactly what you need depends on your setup: how many users will call from Teams, the Microsoft 365 plans you already have and how calls should flow.
  • SureTel confirms the exact requirements during scoping, before you receive a quote.
  • Microsoft licences are billed separately from SureTel's Cloud PBX and call charges.

Want SureTel to look after your Microsoft 365 tenant as well? See Microsoft 365 management.

Mix and match

Not every user needs Teams

Which staff call from Teams is agreed during scoping. Everyone else can use whichever device suits their job.

  • Teams users

Staff who live in Teams make and take calls there, on their computer or the Teams mobile app.

  • Desk phones

Reception, front desks and shared areas can keep a Yealink desk phone on the same phone system.

    VoIP phones
  • Mobile app

The SureTel Cloud PBX mobile app puts an extension on a cellphone, at R20 per extension/month excl. VAT.

  • Browser phone

Cloud PBX users can also make and take calls in a supported web browser, with no app or handset.

Getting started

How SureTel sets up Teams calling

  1. Scoping

Which staff need to call from Teams, which numbers you want, the phone system you have today and your current Microsoft 365 setup.

  2. Numbers

Choose new numbers or port your existing ones. Porting timing depends on the losing provider and a complete request, so plan with a buffer.

  3. Connect and configure

SureTel connects Teams to your Cloud PBX or Yeastar PABX and sets up how calls ring, transfer and go to voicemail.

  4. Test and go live

Test calls in and out of Teams, then switch over. Changes and support are handled Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00.

Cape Town and remote teams

Teams calling wherever your staff work

Cloud PBX is set up and supported remotely, so Teams calling works for Cape Town businesses and for remote and hybrid teams on a stable internet connection. Calls from R0.30 per minute excl. VAT.

FAQ

Microsoft Teams calling FAQs

Can I keep my existing business number with Teams calling?

Yes. Eligible existing numbers can be ported to SureTel and used in Teams. Already have an 011 number? You can port it to SureTel and keep it — new Johannesburg numbers are issued on 010. Porting timing depends on the losing provider and a complete request, so plan with a buffer.

How number porting works

Can staff use Teams calling on their mobile phones?

Yes. Staff set up for Teams calling can make and take business calls in the Microsoft Teams app on their phone, over Wi-Fi or mobile data, as well as on their computer. Staff who don't use Teams can use the SureTel Cloud PBX mobile app instead.

Can we keep desk phones alongside Teams?

Yes. Not every user has to call from Teams. Reception or shared areas can keep Yealink desk phones on the same Cloud PBX or Yeastar PABX, while other staff call from Teams.

VoIP phones

Is Teams calling available in Cape Town and for remote teams?

Yes, through SureTel Cloud PBX, which is set up and supported remotely, so it works for Cape Town offices and staff working from home. New 021 numbers are available. SureTel doesn't install onsite PABX systems in Cape Town.

Can Teams work with an onsite PABX?

Yes, with a Yeastar onsite PABX supplied by SureTel, an authorised Yeastar partner. If you have a different onsite system, ask SureTel: compatibility is checked during scoping, not assumed.

Onsite PABX systems

What does Microsoft Teams calling cost?

Teams integration is scoped and quoted for your setup. Calls are from R0.30 per minute and SureTel Cloud PBX is from R50 per extension/month for 1–100 extensions (R45 from 101, R40 from 301). A Yeastar onsite PABX is priced on request, and Microsoft licences are billed separately. All prices exclude VAT.
